I love this radio! I tried the Y..... but this one is user friendly and much easier to navigate. One feature that I really like is being able to monitor hf sideband frequencies. It's one of the few, maybe only radio that provides decent reception of the AM broadcast band (plus FM). Being a retired BC engineer I still enjoy listening.

My Everthing Radio
I orginally purchased this radio so I could listen to Aviation, Marine & even NASCAR channels at the track (vendors charge $75/day rental at the track for a radio! ). Of course I use it for 2m & 70cm. Excellent radio! Great coverage and easy to program. Computer software easy to use, though the RS232 connecting cable is a bit obsolete (usb would be nice). Some considerations: I replaced the rubby ducky antennae with a Diamond which improved performance; there is no charging cradle; I've worn the edges & some of the numbers off during the years; the belt carrying clip is marginal; I have large hands so the small buttons can be a challenge at times. That last point means that I use my FT-60R for everyday use. But notice that I have not gotten rid of my 'everything radio'. It is well made; batteries swap out easily . A good value for any HAM!

TH-F6A Excellent Radio
3 Bands in one radio. This is my third TH-F6A. I still have the first radio that still works fine. This radio is everything that you could ever want in a radio.

This was my first ham radio as a licensed operator. It was the perfect choice because there were repeaters on all three bands within range of my house. The TH-F6 programming is easy to learn and has a significantly long battery life. I take this HT with me everywhere I go but did invest in a Jetstream 3 band antenna for better coverage. I've used it for WX monitoring, broadcast listening and Echolink contacts.

If you're involved with ARES or any other public safety entity that used amateur radio for support ops, this is your baby! Order an extra battery, AA Batt case and battery eliminator and this will compliment your "GO" bag hands down. Kenwood hit the nail on the head with this one and the next generation of the F6 can only get better!

The only complaint I have is the difficulty finding those good old fashioned mono earpieces. I wish AES had them but, they don't!

Great HT, Loads of bands.
I was wanting a new better more rugged HT then my Wouxun. I have a Kenwood TMV-71a mobile unit as well so wanted to stay Kenwood. At first I looked at the TH-D72A . That is really good if you do hiking and going in the woods, however not for practical use. The TH-F6A is a Tri-bander that picks up sorts of stuff. Even CB and FRS. I'm still learning what all it will do. The reception is great and others say I am full quality hitting the local repeaters. I do though recommend getting the Diamond SRH-320A antenna. It will double your reception and fun with it.
I highly recommend this for an HT.
