Excellent Receiver
I have had my TS-590 for about two months now, and I am very pleased with it. It replaced a Yaesu 897D which I had for a year. I was unsatisfied with the reception on the 897D, and I have found the reception on the 590 is so much better. I am using a Comet 250B vertical, which is lossy, and as a result it is difficult to tell how well the transmitter is doing, in large part because in addition to using a lossy antenna I am also running 150 feet of cable to the antenna.
One of the nice things about the Kenwood is that with a USB cable you can work RTTY and PSK without a Signalink type device. I did that for about a week before I isolated the receiver from the PC and went back to using a Signalink, mostly to protect the radio. PSK reception is great. I've had some great QSOs with Hungary, Canada, Venezuela, Ecuador and lots of stateside contacts as well. I am radiating from central Missouri, EM38wn.
